Coach Ray’s Sufferings: What a Long Week

Follow me on my Half Ironman training and #100DaysOfTri journey’s concurrently. Here is how my week unfolded.

Unfortunately with the cancellation of the Wellington Half I’m still trying to decide what I’m going to do with myself event wise.

I’ve had a really busy week work wise and most days I simply shrugged my shoulders about fitting in any training and looked for a window of opportunity that I could get 30 minutes of something done!! Which I did achieve. I haven’t really had a chance to look at committing to the Buller or entering yet. That can be this week’s job.

MONDAY

#100DaysOfTri Day 38

Although I had a good session scheduled, due to my work load I simply did not have time so went to the pool and squeezed in 30 minutes.

TUESDAY

#100DaysOfTri Day 39

Another day where I simply struggled to find the time to do some training and forced myself to go for a 30 minute run.

WEDNESDAY

#100DaysOfTri Day 40

Despite the bad weather I stopped at Pelorus Bridge as I was driving between Blenheim and Nelson and ran up to K Trig. I ran the opposite way from which I usually run. I got soaked right through and picked up some rubbish as I went.  As I neared the top of the hill I could see what looked like a plastic bag glistening deep in the bush a wee way off the track and figured someone really had to make an effort to get that there and crawled into get it. I was much surprised to find it was a $20 note that some possum had nibbled on the corner. SCORE!!!

THURSDAY

#100DaysOfTri Day 41

Another long day with no time for a workout so paused briefly at Pelorus Bridge squeezing in a 30 minute run. Sticking to the low tracks (which are just as scenic) but not as challenging. Had to chuck some loops in at the end just to make sure I did a full 30 minutes.

FRIDAY

#100DaysOfTri Day 42

Again I left my run until I only had a 30 minute window to get some form of training done. Had a function to go to in the evening, but snuck in my run and left myself 20 minutes to shower and get my suit on to go out.

SATURDAY

#100DaysOfTri Day 43

With a busy day at work I got up early and despite a commitment that the other person didn’t show up at decided to go for my run and if they turned up I’d catch up with them when I got back to help sort the issue I was helping them to solve. SO I got my run in regardless because I had a FULL day of work that wouldn’t allow me the opportunity to do a workout later.

SUNDAY

#100DaysOfTri Day 44

A big night last night with a function (that I wasn’t drinking at) and needing to get down to Christchurch to help with the NZ Invictus Games Team Training Camp, saw my alarm being set for 3am to start a drive from Blenheim to Christchurch. Once I arrived there it was a long day of work with a group of very inspiring athletes. At the end of the day I was too drained to contemplate a workout so did a 30 minute stretching session and got to bed.
