Mike’s Middle Distance Magic: The Journey Begins!

Well actually that’s a lie. My journey started back in 2015 when I entered my first triathlon, the Slateman triathlon. This was a tough one to start with but It came highly recommended and a few friends already entered so I thought what the heck! This was a big eye opener to triathlon and I loved it! They say once you do your first triathlon, you get the bug. Well I did and the “bug” hit hard but I was far from a triathlete!

Over the next three years I completed varying different lengths of triathlon from sprint, olympic, half ironman and a crazy distance Isoman triathlon which consisted of a 7 mile swim/61.3 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run, all of which I enjoyed but never really feel I “competed” in, rather just survived. Looking back now all my previous records were years ago when I first took up the sport and I have never really been structured or consistent with training since.  I  just kind of ticked over with my fitness and threw in a couple of triathlons along the way.

My background is personal training and gym instructing and I have a good knowledge of training, but having that structure from a coach and reassurance from a good coach you can trust is invaluable. I do all of my training alone and compete very rarely so I find it hard to see progression and keep my motivation high.

CHANGE

Well that’s until Ray is going to coach me! I am writing this in my second week of training with Ray and I have “survived” the test week, haha. Ray quickly laughed at that comment so I’m not sure what to expect in the future sessions but bring it on. I’m ready to change from a complete to compete triathlete and looking forward to achieving my 2019 goals!
