Life in The Peloton: Tour of Southland Stage Three Interview with Guy Carter

A friend of Qwik Kiwi, Guy Carter is riding in the Tour of Southland for the first time. Guy is a Chartered Accountant who is now establishing himself as a Mortgage Broker and normally rides for L&M Group Ricoh Team in the Calder Stewart Elite Cycling Series. We will be publishing a daily interview with Guy after each stage to give you an insight into ‘Life in the Peloton’.

Life in the Peloton

QK: How did today’s stage go for you personally?

GC: Had a crack at the break but didn’t make the move that stayed. So looked after our climbers through out the stage and rolled the front of the peloton for the 15km before Coronet to keep our boys up the front going into the climb. Gatey rolled 18th and Anthony 27th. Gatey still in top 10 GC.

QK: You now have your team-mate Anthony Chapman leading the Over 35 category. Knowing how competitive this category can be I’m sure it was a massive team effort over the preceding days to get him in position for the silver jersey. How much of a decisive plan did the team have in place to try and make sure Anthony was in position to take it?

GC: Silver jersey was always on the cards today but not a jersey we are specifically chasing but will defend it the next few days.

QK: Tomorrow is a similar stage with a 148km ride finishing at the summit of Bluff Hill. What are the team goals for tomorrow?

GC: Plan for Bluff will be a stage placing for someone and defend silver, and keep Gatey out of trouble and in position to climb up GC.

QK: With three days of solid racing in the legs now, what do you do to assist with optimising recovery?

GC: We are all getting massages for recovery and have recovery pants to put on NormaTec pressure recovery pants.
