Thursday Training Plan: Spring Challenge Westport
The Spring Challenge is an all women adventure race. Entries have opened today for the 6 hour version, yesterday for the 9 hour version and tomorrow for the 3 hour version. These training plans will assist you and your team mates to prepare for this great adventure around Westport.
Designed for Beginner/Intermediate female Adventure Racers who are looking to participate in the Spring Challenge. The primary goal of this training plan is to prepare you to finish the Spring Challenge COMFORTABLY.
Crafted by myself, Ray Boardman PGDipSportsMed, PGDipRehab, PGCertSc (Exercise Science), BSc (Anatomy), DipSportsStudies this plan encapsulates my passion for the sport, my experience from completing dozens of triathlons and adventure races, marathons and half marathons, and coaching hundreds of athletes to complete these types of events.
Starting 24 weeks before the Spring Challenge (on 16 April 2018), this plan progresses through phases to build you to your peak performance. Each week includes a range of sessions to build your fitness during the week and develop your adventure skills in the weekend. Although not necessary, I recommend using a heart rate monitor in conjunction with a GPS watch (such as a Garmin).
