Lisa’s Journey, Week 25: Just dive right in…

I am wondering if I’m actually going to be able to do this Triathlon only because I’ve not run in a while now.  Two weeks to the day actually (feels like a month).  All I can say is that I’m glad it is a smaller, more fun one!  Maybe my legs will be like, “cool, I’m rested from not running so much, so lets do this” and my heel won’t hurt at all. Apparently I’ll be fine, Ray said, so who am I to argue?

So swimming. I can swim.  I used to love my competitive swimming as a kid, but have not done the whole lane swimming thing in years. Nowadays it’s mucking about with the kids or simply being happy watching them. Long story short, I jumped in beside the kids during their lesson today and swam lengths, basically just to get the feel for it again, and the breathing side of things, I figure on the day, I’ll just wing it.

But I confirmed some basic facts;

  1. I have not yet worked out the swim function on my watch.
  2. I’m not swim fit!
  3. If you start off too fast you get quite out of breath! (much like my running).
  4. If you muck up your breathing water will go up your nose, and you can’t breathe.
  5. I felt like I’d had an all over body workout.
  6. Swimming made me a different kinda tired!
  7. School pools – are gross! (I tried not to think too hard about what I was swimming in).
  8. Goggles allow you to see things as fine as hair floating in the pool (vomit)!
  9. Blocking out numbers 7 & 8, allowed me to really enjoyed it!!

I left wishing either,  a) we could get a pool here. It’d be great to do more often, and year round!! or b) Blenheim was closer.

Mid-week was a bush walk with the girls.  The great wee hill track was good for my legs and lungs alike. Warm night – lost a lot of sweat. The dog was not impressed, but I assured her that it only gets easier! I was pleased when I did it again later in the week, and she didn’t run and hide when asked to come walking and was ahead of me most of the way. It was a little cooler, so I sweated a little less and did it a little faster.

I finished off week with a couple of friends kid’s birthday parties. Pretty unreal how fast time really does seem to be flying.  I’m going to watch my boys athletics this week and reminisce about how ‘when I was their age, how I could move with the same agility and speed… ‘sigh‘.

And, I will run, not sure how far, but I’ll see where my feet take me. I just really want to see what my heel does. It  has been less painful not running, but it is still bugging the shit out of me.

Have yourselves a great week.

Ciao, for now.
