UltraHumps: Back To Swimming

Hi blog followers

Welcome to my blog as I continue my journey towards the Cameron Brown Award and IronMaori / Port of Tauranga Legend Series.  As you all know I have been plagued by injury with my upper left arm, which has been frustrating to say the least.  Thankfully I have always had the support of Coach Ray.

In last week’s blog I wrote about how I completed the second event of 8 events for my journey towards the Cameron Brown Award and IronMaori / Port of Tauranga Legend Series being the IronMaori Quarter Ironman.  Whilst I got through the event, I was concerned how my injured upper arm would come through.  The only thing I found was minor discomfort during the event, not just in the swim but in the later stages of the cycle which kept me off the aerobars.  The next day I surprisingly had no problems at all.

I was keen to get Coach Ray to throw me back in the pool, but with his experience Coach Ray held my reigns back until my Physio appointment during the week to see what the Physio’s take on it would be.  Once given the all clear to return to swimming at a gingerly pace, with a couple of options for Coach Ray to look into, I was able to get into the pool.

Coach Ray has me restarting swimming this week, but I am a happy man to be able to train in all three disciplines of the triathlon (including Ironman / Ultraman) sport.

Of course the fourth discipline is nutrition, which I don’t always get right, as this week’s photos will show testament to. A Salted Caramel Ice Cream Sundae isn’t doing me any favours for lunch, but then the roast dinner is myself convincing I can be forgiven by Coach Ray.  The Jury is still out on that one lol.

Stay tuned team as I head to the third event of 8 for the Cameron Brown Award and IronMaori / Port of Tauranga Legend Series, in less than a couple of weeks.  This event is the Around Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge of 160 kms.

Regards
