Mikes Middle Distance Magic: It’s Christmas!

Christmas Week

Training hasn’t gone to plan this week. With three excited kids and all the Christmas planning I’ve been absolutely shattered. This week is test week, I know. I don’t know how as it only feels like last week I was doing the last one!

Well to cut a long story short I was slightly worse than my last test week.  My FTP is down 16w, 5k time 16 seconds slower and my T time 2 seconds slower. Now I could of gone two ways about this! I could go in a sulk, and just go off the rails and wipe out all the hard work I’ve done and put on a ton of weight by eating rubbish. I’ve done this in the past and one week of training off turns into 2, 3 even 4 weeks.

Well not this time!

I’ve analysed my performances this time and I’m still well up from this time last year and still put in a blinding test week with all the hectic/ crazy things that have been going on this week!

My FTP test is the 4th highest I’ve ever done and second highest on the turbo trainer, so I’ll take that just before Christmas!

5k time – I’m right up there with nearly my best times ever. I’ve got a race time that’s just completely out of the blue from back in 2016 that is 22 min 5k. I’m sure that’s not a legitimate time! All my other ‘best’ times are right on the 25 min 5k time.

So what next!

I’m going to put in a good week this week, do as much training as I can fit in. and enjoy family time and Christmas.

I will then go into January on a high. And with Ray’s knowledge and experience I’ll be way ahead than previous years and ready to smash 2019! On that note have a great Christmas and all the best for 2019.

I’d like to thank Ray for everything so far and I can’t wait to see what 2019 will bring. I wouldn’t be anywhere near this level of fitness without your help and guidance!
