This is the perfect session to include after a base building phase of training when you have already included speed work into your training. Speed work is an important training session for all runners, as well as triathletes, to make you faster.
Improving your VO2 Max will enable you to run at higher intensities. This is a perfect session for runners and triathletes running events up to Half Marathon in distance.
Spending time running at VO2 Max intensity will help develop your ability to run longer at this intensity. Despite the very short rest in this session, you will qwikly accumulate ten minutes running at VO2 Max pace. It is perfect for runners and triathletes running events up to 10km in distance.
Although I’m not often a fan of running on a Treadmill, this type of session is an exception. You can use the treadmill to control the gradient and also the pace. This session takes the best bit of treadmill running and gives you great bang for your time working out. It is perfect for both full and half marathon runners and triathletes alike.
I utilise this session mainly with Ultra- and Trail runners where I measure their intensity with Heart Rate. Although the purpose of this session is to assess their fitness, it also provides a great training stimulus and can be used for success with all runners including triathletes.
