Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 42] – Countdown to School Champs

I’m just less than a week away from my next race, which is a 4km road race against my age school students from around the country. Going into this race I have a bit of mixed feelings, after my last race where I felt I really peaked and raced at my best, I have had a decline post race where I have struggled through many obstacles that seems to get in my way of being my best for this upcoming race.

I have been reading a new nutrition book to try learn more about the body and how mine fits into an athletes spectrum with the right nutrients and care that it needs to race at its optimum, I have already learnt more than I expected and it has definitely called me out on a few points, which I am now trying to focus on fixing and prioritising.

Going into this race I’m not expecting my optimum results but just to put my best foot out there and to learn from what the outcome will be and the lead up it too to get there. I know from an injury I might have this will effect my future training which will be hard to accept but knowing that it will mean optimum and top preformace once recovered it will get me through.

My training in this past week has had its ups and downs which is better than it has been with the ups, some runs I still feel the fatigue set in very early and in some I was feeling more normal and energised near the start taking longer for that fatigue to set in, it’s hard to know how I used to feel on the runs and comparing them but reminding myself that it takes time for improvement to get to where I need to be keeps me motivated and happy with my progress so far.

Ray had definitely been the most helpful through this training period and giving me key information to keep me improving and striving to be my best self as an Athlete, and am positive with him I will be able to reach my optimum health and fitness quickly. T

his week was also the first week of Christmas tree selling, as my family owns a Christmas tree farm, I absolutely love Christmas and love to see all of the decorations and derive being spread, this has definitely made me more happy on my runs with just the festive joy being spread and seeing family’s take home trees to decorate together and celebrate.
