Mike’s Middle Distance Magic: The new year resolutions!

I know everyone and anyone will be doing this same this time of year, and mine this year is on consistency!

Sounds easy and probably should be, but for some reason this year has been one of my worst for consistency, I just haven’t been plain and simply! Now everyone is going to be doing the same and saying this time next year I will be etc etc! But……

I am really keen to actually make it happen this year! I’ve always wanted to be competitive in races, rather than just finish, probably from my competitive days when I was younger as a swimmer. But when races come around, due to crap training I just really don’t perform, And why would I! You get out of training what you put in! And as looking back on training this year I have done two weeks in a row where I have completed all sessions, how did I ever think I was going to perform the way I want and think I can!

So where do I go from here! Well I turn 34 next year and I’d love to go into the next age bracket 35 to 39 competitive and far fitter than I currently am! So Consistency is what’s needed and hopefully the fitness gains and results will follow!

It’s 16 weeks till my first race and I want to get a pb at least! So I looked back on last year (which was my pb at that race ) and looked into what I have to get to achieve that!

The race is a 400m pool swim, 18.5km bike and 5k run. I did the swim in 6.34, the bike in 36:40 at 202w average and 217w NP and the run is actually 2.96 miles and I completed that in 25:30 and 8:37 pace.

I could make up some numbers to aim for and set that I want to achieve, but I’ve done that in the past and ended up know where near! So this time I’m just going to put the miles in, get the sessions green and see where I’m at come April. Il keep you posted on how things go and once again, thankyou for reading.
