Mike’s Middle Distance Magic: good and bad!

On a positive note this week has seen some good power numbers and some pretty decent speed on the runs! However not everything was on track to achieve my goals, unfortunately.

The bike I am really putting in some good sessions now, 8 x 4 mins at VO2 Max and 3 x 12 mins at FTP was some pretty spicy sessions. My mindset has completely done a 360 and I actually look forward to doing the efforts rather than the recovery’s now. When things start going well, they really go well!

My running isn’t up to my best, I normally do my VO2 Max stuff around low 7 min per mile when I managed my PB for 5k of 23:54. I’m not a million miles off though. I’m around 7:30 to 7:45 per mile on them now, but hopefully that will give me a good chance to get under 25 mins for my 5k on test week.

Now the downside! My goal weight was to be under 80kg by may, it is now a few days off and I’m still 84kg, exactly where I was at the start of April. I have tried to watch what I eat and as a positive I haven’t gained weight. I feel a lack of movement in general during the day is a massive contributor. On days I’m doing my bike or rest day I’m averaging around 5,000 steps a day! I’m normally double if not triple that. But with the lockdown still in force I’m not really moving much other than the training!

Let’s see what next week brings!
