Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 56]: Going Bush

This weekend I did something slightly different to normal, I moved my long run and bike forward one day giving me time to go on my first solo hike, I had just brought all the new gear I needed and planned a route, although I did muck up my route slightly I still got where I planned on staying just with a different route there than expected.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 55]: Waikato 3,000m Champion

Yesterday was a key point in my running journey so far for me. I competed in the Waikato secondary schools athletics and was entered in the 3000m race. Usually I avoid running track events as they aren’t my strongest suit as I train off track and more for longer distances, but when it comes to anything under national athletics there isn’t anything else but the 3000m as the longest distance.

Brick Workout

Monday Brick: Lance Watson’s Xterra Taper Brick

A brick session is a great way to develop your body for the rigours of transitioning from one discipline to the next. This version is perfect for utilising in the final weeks leading into an Xterra race – optimally about four to five days prior to race day.

Immerse yourself in this FTP-focused session. Allow this 60-minute journey to pull out your strengths and trim away your weaknesses. Stay chilled – after today, your FTP game shall never be the same. Saturday Swim Session: Triathlon Plus Beginners Session 1

The ability to swim at and maintain your threshold pace is a critical component of fitness for triathletes and long-distance open water swimmers. This is a great session for triathletes and open water swimmers to do to build their top-end speed.

Friday Fartlek Run: Steady Plus 35min

Race pace for events longer than half marathon distance for most athletes aren’t run at threshold pace but instead a touch lower with large portions of the event done at Level III. It’s important to expose the body to training at this level of intensity. This is a great workout for someone training for a half to a full marathon (whether part of an Ironman or 70.3).

Steph Barker’s Amazing Run

I started with Coach Ray and Qwik Kiwi Coaching in late November 2023 with the aim of trying a different style of training to what I’d been doing in the past. I’d been following a programme from a book for my ultra events and wanted something fresh. I’ve enjoyed the variety of sessions that I’ve been completing since joining Coach Ray.

Bailey’s Coast 2 Coast Journey [Ep 01] – Every Journey Starts With A Single Step

Having the thought of knowing Coast to Coast training has started was not easy. Having to get into the routeen of going to bed at a decent hour of the evening, and not hitting snooze in the morning.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 54] – Volleyball Nationals

This week was slightly differently set out to my usual, instead of my normal school routine I had a week away in Palmy competing with my school for the volleyball nationals. I’ve been playing volleyball since I was in year 9, so this was my 5th year playing but due to COVID and other sports overlapping I haven’t been able to make the past 2 senior nationals.
