4 weeks agoWell today is the slowest of my 14 Greytown Park Runs. I nearly didn't make it to the start line. My bed was so cosy. However I'm glad I did make it. My glutes were sore after some walking lunges with a couple of 5kg plates I did yesterday. My bathroom scales showed I have an extra kg or two on top of an already extra kg or two. Because I left it so late to leave, I did not allow enough time for a warm up. It was 2C so a warm up would have helped. I know I

4 days agoThe Greytown Park Run uses this trail for its 5km course. It is a lovely course with a few undulations. Last week it was wet and bitterly cold. Today it was around 12C. Due to a lack of consistency with my run training, I have lost some aerobic fitness. I started off reasonably well, but was unable to maintain my pace and resorted to a mixture of running with short walks over the last 1500m. I'm sure I'm not the only person who is unmotivated with grey winter days, the cold, the dark mornings and nights. With the shortest day

Being a junior triathlete in NZ in the 90's I grew up racing against and being inspired by the likes of John Hellemans. I attended training camps that he ran, and this book gives a great insight into his life and challenges during that time as well as before and after.
