Top 10 Gifts For Swimmers

With the lead in to Christmas well on the way and Christmas decorations starting to go up (I’ve even heard my first Christmas Carol), it’s time to look at what are my picks for the ten best gifts for swimmers.

In no particular order here are my picks:

Swim Smooth: The Complete Coaching System for Swimmers and Triathletes*

This is the best book about swimming technique that I have ever read and I’ve read a few. This book will help you transform your swim technique and as a result become a better swimmer. It is suitable for all levels of swimmer – beginner, intermediate and advanced. It will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses of your stroke and has plenty of drills to improve them.

Finis Zoomer Fins*

Fins (or flippers) are essential for maintaining momentum when doing drills. You don’t want them being too long providing an excessive amount of momentum. Finis Zoomers are perfect for drills due to their short length.

blueseventy Transition Bag*

Designed for triathletes on race day it has a waterproof compartment in the bottom for your wet suit. External pouches for waterbottles and your helmet and plenty of internal space. Despite all this I primarily use it as my daily swimming bag for my fins, pull buoy etc. All up there is 44L of space.

TYR Pull Buoy*

Although I’m not a big fan of using a pull buoy, TYR make some of the most comfortable to use. They do play an important role in improving swimming if they aren’t overly relied on. This one is made of soft EVA foam.

Speedo Core Tech Competition Swimming Paddles

There are an assortment of hand paddles available for swimming out on the market. Sometimes the simplest are the best.  These ones put your hand in the optimal position in the water and also have a hydrodynamic design. The best feature from my perspective is the placement of the straps so they aren’t attached over your wrist. This means that if you don’t have good stroke mechanics you will get immediate feedback as you feel the hand paddles coming off the hand. Other models with wrist straps will stay firmly attached.

Zone 3 Swim Buoy/Dry Bag

This brightly coloured inflatable dry bag is ideal for storing your kit whilst you swim and to use as an inflatable buoy for increased visibility in open water.

Funkita Women’s Diamond Back One Piece Swimsuit

Funkita make a range of vibrant women’s swimwear. Announce your arrival at the pool with this one piece swimsuit that is made of C-Inifinity chlorine resistant fabric and has an interior front lining. With the stylish and fashionable diamond back, you can’t go wrong.

Speedo Men’s Endurance+ Jammer Swimsuit

A stalwart of the swimming scene Speedo have been making quality products for many years. This pair of men’s jammers are great for training in with their four way stretch characteristics and 100% chlorine resistant material.

blueseventy Siren Goggles

These goggles are absolutely the best goggles out there for female swimmers. They are anatomically designed for the female face (and work really great for guys who have small heads too), taking into account the closer distance between eye sockets, the higher cheek bones and different shape of the nose bridge for females. The lenses are also placed to allow for great peripheral vision which is perfect for open water swimming and training.

blueseventy Hydra Vision Goggles*

The ultimate for open water swimming these goggles give a great range of peripheral vision enabling you to see what is going on around you. With a nice soft HDR TPR frame materials used to reduce weight, increase comfort and fit. They also have CP lenses to deliver unmatched anti-fog properties and an integrated soft touch auto adjust strap system allows ease of adjustability. They were the Winner of Triathlete Magazine Editor’s Choice Best Goggle.
