Mike’s Middle Distance Magic: Sometimes surprises happen!

Well what’s happened this week! Started the usual way, some good sessions, the run was really good 4 x 6 mins at 8:20 per mile off 1 min recovery’s. faster and longer than last week, happy days!

The bike and swim was ok, the bike was tough though and definitely felt harder than last week, struggled to complete the session and failed on the second rep of 3! This session is in again this week and I’m determined to give it a good go and get this one green!

One session that yet again was a disaster was the long bike! A late night on Friday night and a couple of drinks means the Saturday morning 4:30am alarm was swiftly switched off!

Now to the title of the blog. After missing the long bike, the usual me would of just thought, sod it, what’s the point in doing the long run! Well not this week, I though even to just get out the door and do 10 minutes is more than I’ve done in months! So trainers on and away I went. It was bloody freezing! Minus 2 and pretty icy. To be honest this was probably a good thing as I took it really steady for the first 20 minutes or so to be careful not to slip. I felt great and thought I’ll just see how it goes! Well cut a long story short it went bloody awesome! The full 1 hour 50 minutes completed and a green session done. To say this is a massive relieve that I can actually complete a long run is a big thing. It’s been about 5 months since I did a run this long, so a big confidence boost going into next week, so let’s get to it, 7 green next week is the goal. See how the legs feel after a 3 hour bike, that could be a whole different story!
